Booksigning at Bethany Beach Books on Friday July 1, 2016

Phil Webster in character as John Jay attended a book signing at Bethany Beach Books on Friday, July 1st, 2016. Nearby Bethany at the Delaware Bay on July 2nd, 1776 a crew from the Rock Hall Maryland area died. Lambert Wickes finally broke the British blockade of the Delaware Bay and found a ship named the Nancy which had 300 barrels of gunpowder aboard. In 18 months, Lambert Wickes captured only 18 British ships; but let's talk about John Paul Jones. Anyway, Lambert put his younger brother in charge of the Nancy, the ship was beached at Turtle Gut Island near Cape May. They were able to unload over 200 barrels of gunpowder before the British blew up Richard Wickes and his crew. This crew died on the very same day that the Declaration of Independence was signed. This is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices that many Delmarvans made for freedom.
